This year the Ida Bay Railway has teamed up with SteamFest Tasmania to introduce a family oriented, two day inclusive community festival, celebrating southern Tasmania’s unique railway heritage at Ida Bay. Leveraging the expertise of Steam Fest Tasmania – who have run a similar event in Sheffield, Tasmania for the past 24 years, Steam Age Ida Bay Festival 2018 will host working steam machines being demonstrated, stallholders exhibiting/providing services and products of the steam age era as well as family entertainment.
I envisage the proposed Festival to be a tourism boost and foresee it being of great benefit to Dover, Southport, Ida Bay and indeed the whole Huon Valley community. The Huon Valley Council wholeheartedly supports the inaugural Steam Age Ida Bay Festival 2018.
The heart and soul of Steam Age Ida Bay is its impressive assembly of steam and antique machinery. Be part of the annual event in the southern-most Tasmania and see how things were done in days gone by at the interactive Rally Ground display, featuring a vast array of antique machinery from all over Australia including traction and portable engines.
